Kula’s advanced study and teacher training program is a comprehensive 200-hour program, recognized by the Yoga Alliance.
The 2010/11 program begins October 7, 2010.
The Teacher Training Program is appropriate for anyone who would like to deepen their personal yoga practice, cultivate greater self-awareness, and learn the art of becoming an effective and inspirational teacher.
Program Prerequisites: Students should have a developed and dedicated yoga practice. The training requires a willingness to connect deeply and to explore with an open heart!
Course Curriculum:
Practical Study: •In depth study of asana, taught from the perspective of the Universal Principles of Alignment •Principles of Sequencing
Philosophical Study: •Pranayama •Meditation •Origins of Hatha Yoga, and the study of classical and contemporary yoga philosophy •Ethics and upholding the auspicious responsibility of the teacher •Sanskrit names of postures
Personal Development: •Harness the transformative power of yoga in your life •Access intuitive faculties, one’s inner voice and guide as a teacher •Become a clear channel from which to teach
The Art of Teaching • Inspiring students to move from the inside out • Seeing students clearly and understanding their individual needs • Applying skillful hands-on adjustments • Clear verbal cues and communication • Effective Demonstrations • Weaving reflections and inspiration with asana
Class Format:
The group will meet once a week on Thursday evenings, and one weekend a month for the duration of six months. Please view the course calendar for a detailed schedule.
In order to obtain certification, 80% attendance is required and no more than one weekend may be missed.

*Aprox. 20 hours will be designated to projects and non-contact assignments.
*It is strongly encouraged that students participate in two public classes each week at Kula.

Colin Matthews -Asana, Intuitive Development, the Art of Teaching, Yoga Therapeutics
Colin Matthews is the founding director of Kula Yoga Studios. He has spent the past ten years studying a wide variety of Yoga disciplines; his primary influence is the tradition of Anusara Yoga. Colin continues to study in great depth the teachings of Modern Mystics, such as Caroline Myss, and he shares methods of cultivating intuitive faculties through the practice of Yoga.
Colin’s passion rests in education, healing, and transformation, and he strives to impart knowledge with the express purpose of skillful application to his students. Colin invites an ever-evolving conversation with one’s self and community, and he is known for his playful expression as he weaves philosophy and spirituality into every day life.
Grant Hutchinson -Asana, Pranayama & Meditation, The Art of Teaching
Grant’s teaching blends precise alignment instruction with engagement of the students' qualitative experience through awareness of breath. His classes establish a supportive environment for the exploration of impermanence through the mind/ body practice of yoga.
Grant has been practicing yoga since 2001 and teaching since 2005. He has had the great fortune to study intensively with Ron Reid and Diane Bruni of Downward Dog, Michael Stone and Richard Freeman in the Ashtanga Vinyasa discipline along with his studies in India and Thailand.
Dr. Douglas Brooks - Tantric Philosophy
Dr. Douglas Brooks is among the world’s leading scholars of Hindu Tantrism and the esoteric traditions of the Goddess. He holds a Masters and Doctorate degree from Harvard University’s Center for the Study of World Religions.
Douglas has held academic positions both in India and the United States, and he is currently a Professor of Religion at the University of Rochester in New York.
In addition to his formal Western education, Douglas lived for many years in India in the house of his Teacher, Gopala Iyer Sundarmoorthy, an eminent scholar of Hinduism and a Master of the Tantric Goddess tradition known as Auspicious Wisdom, or Shri Vidya.
Douglas is the author of a number of books and scholarly articles on Hinduism and the Comparative Study of Religion.
Hareesh Chris Wallis - History of Yoga
Hareesh Chris Wallis’ teaching balances accuracy with accessibility, profundity with clarity, and intellectual integrity with heart-expanding inspiration.
As a gifted scholar, Hareesh holds a Masters in Sanskrit from U.C. Berkeley, an M.Phil. in Classical Indian Religions from the University of Oxford, and he is currently completing doctoral research at Berkeley on the traditions of Tantric Shaivism.
He received traditional education at yoga āshramas in upstate New York and India in meditation, kirtan, mantra-science, asana, karma-yoga, and more. He currently teaches meditation, yoga darshana (philosophy), Sanskrit, chanting, and sometimes offers spiritual life-coaching.
Kathy Roseborough - Chakras, Layers of Consciousness and the Subtle Body Energy Field
Kathy Roseborough is a professional Educator of Esoteric Principles, energy healer, intuitive counselor and Reiki Master with 25 years experience. She continues to study extensively bioenergetics, intuitive healing, origins of illness and soul evolution through the ancient Mystery School teachings.
With great clarity and attunement, Kathy assists students to understand and experience the layers of consciousness embedded in the subtle body energy field to support their evolving practice toward deep connection and heightened awareness on their personal journeys, and as future Yoga teachers.
Adam Dunn - Anatomy
As a soon-to-be chiropractor, a seasoned yoga teacher, and a gifted and accomplished athlete, - i.e. Six Iron Mans under his belt – Adam effectively illuminates infinite ‘awe’ in the human anatomy with functional bio-mechanic awareness. His teaching is focused on the application of skillful physiological knowledge, specific to the practice of yoga, that supports safe movement with the direct intention of maintaining and achieving healthy alignment in the body.
